Dona
Lee Anderson has spent most of her adult life studying and working
in the Tidewater area. She and her partner, Terry R. Wright opened
Anderson & Wright Goldsmiths in the summer of 1974 at the
Virginia Beach oceanfront.
They
had gone on vacation the previous year to the historic town of San
Miguel de Allende, Mexico, an international arts and crafts community,
home of "The Instituto de Allende ". This college is affiliated
with "The Rhode Island School of Design" . Inspired by the beautiful
fire opals found in that region, Terry sought to apprentice privately
with the jewelry professor from the college. He had to learn how
to make jewelry for these gems ! From Terry, Dona learned the craft.
So, while Anderson & Wright Goldsmiths got it's start first
in silver, they quickly turned to gold as the customer tastes changed
over the years. Anderson & Wright Goldsmiths have had nine different
locations, one of which was in Palm Beach, Florida, in it's 26 years
of operation.
Dona
and Terry moved Anderson & Wright Goldsmiths to the Waterside
Festival Marketplace in the summer of 1990. The store has grown
in customer base and physical size in the past 10 years, moving
into the largest space it has ever had this past year. Although
the size has changed, customer satisfaction has always been a priority,
and that will never change.
